Aster DM Healthcare, one of the largest integrated healthcare providers in the GCC and India, is set to expand its footprint in the Middle East and Africa, according to Founder Chairman and Managing Director Dr Azad Moopen.

“We aim to be one of the largest healthcare groups in the world. We have altogether 30 hospitals across  seven countries. Of that 10 are in the UAE and a large number of clinics as well as pharmacies. The total number of people we have across the world is 27,000 and 8,000 of them are in the UAE alone. Out of this 27,000 staff, 3,800 are doctors and 8,000 plus nurses. And we see 20 million patients in a year,” Dr Moopen said at an event to announce the opening of a 100-bed Aster Hospital in Sharjah, UAE.

In India, Aster has 15 hospitals and more than 200 pharmacies. Another four hospital projects are progressing — a 500-bed hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, one in Kasaragod in Kerala, a 500-bed hospital in Bengaluru and one more hospital in Chennai.

In the Gulf region, the fourth hospital is coming up in Oman shortly and more than 250 Aster Pharmacies in Saudi Arabia in the next five years, said Alisha Moopen, Alisha Moopen, Deputy Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare.

The 100-bed multi-specialty hospital spread across 200,000 square feet in Al Bu Daniq area of Sharjah was inaugurated by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council.

The facility has all the core specialties like obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, neurology, cardiology, paediatrics, general surgery, and urology.

The hospital said it has a team of experienced doctors with proven clinical excellence and support staff to offer exceptional patient care and medical outcomes.

The launch of the hospital in Sharjah is in line with the group’s mission to deliver seamless care to everyone by making healthcare accessible and affordable, said a statement.

“We have developed a highly integrated and sophisticated care-delivery ecosystem that promotes accessibility and inclusivity in healthcare. The latest endeavour underlines this greater mission,” the statement said.

“We are proud to dedicate our fifth Aster Hospital in the UAE and 30th across the region, to the people of Sharjah. The 100-bed facility equipped with modern healthcare infrastructure brings highly skilled professionals who will provide the full spectrum of secondary and tertiary care services to our patients.”

Alisha Moopen said: “Our vision for Aster Hospitals in the UAE has been to offer quality care closer to the homes of people. The hospital in Sharjah will ensure that the residents do not have to travel all the way to Dubai to experience our quality care. The new hospital is yet another milestone in our journey, which will deliver upon our brand promise – ‘We’ll Treat You Well,’ as we continue to expand our offering in secondary and quaternary care.”
